How this fuel estimate works
The calculator multiplies your route distance for a round trip when selected, adds any local driving, divides the total by your vehicle's MPG, then multiplies the gallons needed by the price you enter.
What is included
Fuel needed, total fuel cost, cost per mile, and an equal per-traveler share when you add more than one traveler.
What can change the result
Actual fuel economy can vary with speed, idling, weather, load, terrain, traffic, and driving style. Fuel prices are your entered assumption, not live local prices.
Formula
Total miles = route distance × trip multiplier + local driving. Gallons needed = total miles ÷ MPG. Estimated fuel cost = gallons needed × price per gallon.
