How the estimate works

The baseline follows Naismith's Rule: allow 20 minutes per mile, then add 30 minutes for each 1,000 feet of ascent.

The formula

Baseline moving time = (distance in miles × 20 minutes) + (total ascent in feet ÷ 1,000 × 30 minutes). Your pace adjustment changes that moving-time estimate by the percentage you enter. Planned break minutes are then added. The upper end of the displayed range adds a further 25% planning allowance; it is not a safety rating or a prediction.
